Hi all,
I' heading off to Carlingford on MOnday 11th April with the family for a few days.
Can anybody inform me if they know of any fish being caught there?
Would you get anything spinning or is it bait?
Thanks for any advise given.

Re: Sea fishing in Carlingford, Co. Louth.
hi Tonto, welcome to SAI
all i know is that there are definitely bass and sea trout that patrol the edges of the lough, especially on the south side near the very mouth of the lough - it is ideal territory.
i took part in a fly-fishing bass competition a couple of years ago where im sure there were 80 men lined along that stretch of shore, all fly-fishing, but only about 6 fish were caught all day
- so they are hard to get on the fly anyways so i suggest spinning or bait if you want to target either species.
i heard mackerel come in to casting distance during the summer off grenore, it may be a bit early but u never know..
i have never bait fished the bottom there but there is plenty of clean ground all around the lough, im sure its definitely worth a go for flatties, cod, coley or whatever.
hope this helps, good luck. beautiful part of the world!!

Hi lads,
Not much to report from Carlingford. I put three hours in with my brother spinning up by the rocks at Greenore, without any joy.
There was a bit of activity in the shape of many a Sea Trout jumping in the water, all close to the shore.
Sorry i've nothing better to report but at least i've been bitten by the bug again.

ah jees.. you must have put that reply up there just as i was hitting the Submit button...
but hard luck anyways, was worth the effort.
really think you should have tried just that bit further out towards the point at the mouth of the lough though - working around the stoned outcrops and weed beds - better chance of a bass. ah well, sure we're all used to the aul blank so i hope it doesnt stop you from tryin again..
