W Waterford 3rd & 4th April

#1 Post by Stan »

People: Me, Joe, Tom & Paul

Duration: 12.00-18.00 ( 3rd) & 00.00-03.00 ( 4th)

Tide:18.00

Weather: SW wind and sunshine

Bait:Lug & rag

Rigs:2 up

Results: 3 bass, flounder, coalies and codling

Report: Started at noon with some smelly lug and fresh rag. Paul caught a flounder about 14.00. Nothing then till about 16.00 when I caught a 7lb bass. :D :D :D Missed two more bass. I think that they were just schoolies taking a mad swipe at the bait. Fish were all over 100yds out.
W Waterford Bass April 2011a.jpg

Back to Ardmore for a wonderful meal in the White Horses.....steaks to die for!!!!!!! This restaurant is first class.

Back out around midnight for the turn of the tide. We were plagued by crabs for the first hour. Then we had a steady stream of small fish. I got a typical bass bite and would in a schoolies of about 1lb. On last cast Tom managed a nice bass. :D :D

Fish caught by everybody and no blanks.

Well done, few nice bass there.
The Whitehorses is an excellent restaurant alright and their desert selection is something else. I am not a big lover of desert but make an exception for the Whitehorses.

Just shows me I need to get out of my head that big bass are only caught at 5am on a misty morning with a nice Sw, spring tide, etc etc....! :-)

Seriously I dont fish enough during the day..!

Stonking fish there...! Looks heavier than 7 but always hard to tell from pics.

Thanks lads.

Declan I tried some lures in Feb without any luck. I will be in Ardmore again next week and hope give the Feed Shallows and Kilty's a bit of exercise.

At the moment the bass only seem to be interested in lug or rag. Crabs and razors were just ignored.

It's the same in Cork - in January and February razor was fishing well but over the last few weeks the bass have become much more selective and will not touch razor - which is a pain as I now have to plan in advance, get out and dig lug, rather then just grab a pack of razor from the freezer and head out on the spur of the moment.

I caught bass on razor last night and oli from the site and his friend were catching them beside us on razor too.
