Re: reel ratio
For every time you turn the handle 1 full revolution the spool turns 3.4 revolutions. Presuming thats a boat multi with a ratio that low?

Re: reel ratio
Cheers ger, its actually a Penn fx.
Just looking around at a few reels.
What ratio would you reckon on fx be best?

Re: reel ratio
dont use fx reels much but same rules as multi apply.wayne riley wrote:Cheers ger, its actually a Penn fx.

high speed=low torque...e.g. 6:1
low speed=high torque...e.g. 3:1
really depends what you're using it for...Rough ground fishing you want high ratio to get gear in quick away from snags...spinning depends what speed you want ure lure to move at...big fish from boats like conger would be higher torque so you can actually move the fish at all.
To be honest when you buy a fx reel for a specific task e.g. beachcasting the manufacturer has already decided upon the best ratio for the job at hand and built it in so just buy what ever looks the nicest

Re: reel ratio
just to confuse you it also depends on the size of the spool ie a big pit reel will retreive more line than a narrow spool with the same gear ratio

Re: reel ratio
and then you have to consider how full the spool is, how fast you turn the handle, what line your using, how fas..............................etc!roger de dodger wrote:just to confuse you it also depends on the size of the spool ie a big pit reel will retreive more line than a narrow spool with the same gear ratio
