some rod advice needed

mananaged to get my hands on one of the old green abu 6500 reels and I was wondering what type of rod to match it with. My problem is I have never used a multiplier before so I dont know what length of rod to buy,should I go with a fixed seat or coasters should the reel be set high or low on the rod and what kind of price range will I be looking at for a starter rod I have around 120 quid to spend
I normaly fish around wicklow off the beaches but I am itching to step it up a gear

I need all the advice I can get as my head is well and truly melted'

about 13 foot is nice,do you fish clean ground ,mixed or rough mostly?fixed seat is crap for multi and up or down the butt is personal pref ,see what you feel comfy with ,i was using sliding reel seats ,inc trigger grip but have gone back to coasters as i have smallish hands and find gripping the spool better with them,then again thats just me

coasters are much better for multis, 13 or 14 foot is nice. i find its easier to use the reel down low for distance fishing as you can get more power but for fishing in close it doesnt matter! hope it helps

I find coasters with the multiplier works better and I put the reel up the rod as it feels neater to me and I feel like I get more power but I'm sure that's a personal preference . That was my first multiplier reel as well i find it great , I use mine on a Ian golds international match rod .They go great together

The Shakespeare range of salt rods are getting great reviews, get 13ft model within ur budget and hasn't,t coasters which I'd avoid for fishing but again good tackle shop should be able to offer sound advice get in there

Coasters are dated and more prone to failing versus a good quality sliding reel seat which has become more preferable on all new rods. If ur new to any set up simplicity is the key, first time multi user would be better off using the reel up also.

Just my opinion though and every man will have a preference. Remember it's a first time user we are helping here!

unless you get a trigger grip a fixed reel seat wont give you much to hold on to while casting,the only one i had was a griplock ,to be honest it was ok but didnt grip the reel as good as coasters,i have a penn one in the shed and found it very bulky but it was rock solid,just stay away from the plastic coasters a few big cable ties would be a better investment
