Killiney Beach

Hi all,
I have been away from beach fishing for some time now due to ill health but I intend to resume soon.
I have been told that there is a fishing ban on Killiney Beach?. I have spent many a good night there particularly in August/September in the evening.
Is this true and more importantly is it legal.
I would appreciate any information an the situation.

Me self and a few other lads have fished it a good lot in the last few months and ive never seen any signs to suggest no fishing nor has any one ever said anything.

it is illegal to fish between the lifeguard flags and in a boat their are marker bouys to exclude all boats from the shore inc jet ski,s,it is also banned at sandycove and the fourty foot (i,m sure the lifeguards will enforce it in the summer when the flags go up!! and its a hefty fine if your in the wrong spot

Hi Folks. I'm new to Dublin but a keen fisherman. I may be taking an apartment near Killiney so this thread is really helpful thanks. I've read that casting a long way isn't needed at Killiney due to the way the shingle drops off and fish feed close in. Any idea what fish can be caught there and what techniques work best? Spinning with a lure / Rapala? Ledgering with grip leads? Baits? Cheers and looking fwd to seeing down there soon as I get my kit brought across.

Many thanks for your replies.
It appears that this is another example of the 'Nanny' state going insane. It is no surprise that this initative came from the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council.
Looking at the provisions of the By-Laws they are indeed stringent and utterly senseless. I never fish when swimmers are in the water and I know of no anglers who do. The consequences of striking a swimmer with 150g of lead with a sharp hook attached are unimaginable.
I do not know the extent of the ban or where the lifeguard flags are situated so it is my intention to visit the beach and see just how intrusive this insanity is
I will let you people know what I discover.

I have been down on Killiney Beach the last few weekends at high tide and the place has been deserted. not sure if that the ban or if i was not in the "Right " Place. Anyone know where is the best place, Vico or shankill end?

I generally fished just North of the car park. Late Summer and early Autumn evenings I found to be the most productive. Others may disagree with that.
Recently I e-mailed Dun Laoghaire Rathdown Council for some clarification on the situation and was, unsurprisingly, ignored. If anyone has any definitive information I would be happy to hear from you.

Not too sure about the ban but as for the fishing at the moment......myself and a buddy fished the tide from low to high(about 7.15 pm I think), on saturday and with two rods each we managed 5 pin whiting between us......just to the right of the car park. There were three others fishing as well ...including two lads down at the rougher ground to the north end and to my knowledge they did no better than we did.Hope you have better luck than we did

any tips on what works best, bait wise? and if high tide is best?
i also was checking out coliemore harbour and bullock harbour at high tide but saw nobody fishing. i remember always seeing people fishing in these spots during my childhood. where are all the fishermen gone!
I'm coming back to fishing after 25 years i'm not sure if my memory is a bit rose tinted?
