Re: pitch fork
b&Q have a good selection of garden forks there around 35 to 40 euro and well worth the money
2 or 3 sessions collecting bait and its paid for ,just make sure when your picking one that you get
one with flat prongs, this makes the digging a lot easier .

Re: pitch fork
Buy a decent one with a steel shaft. i have broken several wooden shafts which can be a disaster if you are relying on getting some worms

Re: pitch fork
avoid the cheap ones as they break very often. very awkward to dig with 3 prongs or impossible when it snaps at the shaft. also i got a good one from B&Q which is ergonomic. the slight angle on it is saving me a lot of back-ache.

Re: pitch fork
I generally prefer the wider head with flat forks, I think the narrower head forks have a tendency of breaking up your "sod" to much creating a mess and resulting in lost lug.. I also always use a long handle.. Only reason is to try and ease the strain on the back muscles, their kind of important

Re: pitch fork
b&q sell a fork called a "heavy duty contractor fork". up in the north here they are £20 and are metal from the handle to the fork tip. well strong and worth the money
if it can cope with 15 stone of me swinging on it i'd say it will cope with what you want it for
. and the beauty of it is that it will pay for it's self the first time you use it. we went out yesterday and dug 2lb of rag and lug for the rest of the month which would have cost us £25 in the tackle shop
.

Re: pitch fork
I would reccommend that you buy one of the more expensive forks that are available out there, it would be made off much better quality, would be stronger and more durable meaning that it will last you far longer. I don't mean spend a fortune, just don't get the cheapest one there is, go for something in and around the middle range of the pricing as they will be a better fork. When digging worms you can put alot of force and tension on the fork and so you do need something that will withstand that and not break on you.
I have learnt from my mistakes regarding this. I did buy one of the cheaper brands of forks from B & Q a while back and after only using it a very short while it broke on me! Even worse than that, I was down on a fishing holiday at the time when it happened, and was stuck without a fork for the rest of my time down there meaning I wasn't abe to dig any more worms which wasn't good at all considering I was bass fishing and it was the best bait to use where I was fishing. I was not happy but it was my own fault for not buying a better quality of fork. You do get what you pay for without a doubt.
Most hardware stores do have a good range of stock in them. Another thing I would reccommend you look at when picking a fork is the handle, make sure it is comfortable in your hand, there's nothing worse than sore hands or blisters after digging worms caused by a handle that was rubbing and hurting your hands as you dig.
