West Waterford 16/01/11

#1 Post by Nite Owl »

People:Me

Duration:15:30 to 18:30

Tide:HW around 16:00

Weather:Just lovely

Bait:peeler,lug, razor

Rigs:2 hook flapper, 3/0 pennel pulley

Results:1 bass, 1 rockling, 2 coalies

Report:With the forecast for the weekend giving a hammering south west wind, I thought a trip to Waterford might be worth a try on Sunday. Unfortunately it wasn't just the South and West coasts that got hammered on Saturday  which resulted in arriving at the mark about 3hrs later than planned.
The plan had been to target codling but maybe I should have phoned ahead to let them know I was on the way down, they never showed up.
There was a deadly surf running which looked very bassy so I lobbed out a big lug/razor cocktail on the pulley first off and when baiting the second rod noticed the first had gone slack. Wound in and the fish was still on, a nice 45cm bass. Happy to get one this early in the year.Unfortunately that was the end of the excitement for the day, only picking up a couple of 10cm coalies and a 10cm rockling after that. Have a feeling that things could have been different if I got there a bit earlier; staying off the sauce next time.

Cheers lads. Good to open the bass account this early alright, it was well into March last year before I got the first one. From reading the other reports it seems that I didn't need to drive so far in search of codling, and missed out on the free hugs too

Think I would have preferred to have caught the bass than been molested by strangers on a dark beach !!!!
