fishing boats off aran

any one know what the fishing boats are after off the aran islands,15 of them fishing and are fishing since Friday when I first looked at http://www.marinetraffic.com

If it was earlier in the year id have said prawns now theie probably after whitefish

more then likely there herring fishing where the boats pair up...probaly be gone as soon as there qoutas are full.

i thought the herring fishery off aran collapsed 50 years ago?

Fishing prawns, prices are good at the moment.
Sea Species(25) bass, codling, whiting, turbot, seatrout, stingray, pollock, coalfish, longspine scorpion, ballan wrasse, dogfish, ling, pouting, poor cod, dab, mackerel, smelt, sandeel, launce, bull huss, painted ray, thick lip mullet, golden grey mullet, rock goby.
Fresh Water (2) brown trout, sea trout

thanks for the replies lads,the boats are still out there fishing the same area,its 10 days since I saw them first and now I am wondering what kind of damage have they done to the sea bed after reading this http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2776359.stm

50/60 guys trying to make a living for their families and keeping off the dole queue. Putting food on our tables in this terrible weather. They have my admiration particularly during this period of financial depression in Ireland.

keeping off the dole que - aspirational surely

ruining your own resource and cutting off you nose to spite your face, i dont have admiration for - what are they going to put on the table next time :?:

maybe they are fishing this stretch sustainably - who am i to know :idea:

If it is Herring they are after it has taken the stocks fifty years to recover, There was a pair of boats fishing Liscanor a few years ago for herring, I don't know if they still are.
