Beach as opposed to rocks...

Hi there,

Was wondering why so many sea anglers say they will be getting off the rocks coming up to winter for the beach.

Is it a safety consideration, or due to different species moving onto the sand?

As a relative beginner, I have fished a couple of rock marks that have consistently produced fish up to now and am wondering whether I can expect a downturn in sport through the winter months. The marks produce pollock, coalies, and wrasse predominately.

To be honest I like rock fishing and am hesitant about moving onto the beaches!

its mainly from a safety concern - although the wrasse and pollack you may have been having may be shorter in supply

if you were getting dogs thornies etc. off the rocks well they may not go too far

but still these can be had from a beach where it is much safer

it depends how lazy/mad you are in the end i guess

Rocks can be as dangerous in summer. One freak wave is all it takes at any time of year. I personally will be avoiding anything more than the odd fly session but that is simply because I broke my foot earlier this year (July) whilst fishing off rocks.

It knocked my confidence a hell of a lot,that's not normally me.

i'd be the same in winter and usually stick to chucking lures at rainbows and only have the odd sea fishing session, just a shame Straid closed down, i preferred it much more than Tildarg
