north connemara co,galway 23rd oct 2010

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself

Duration:12:00 to 19:00

Tide:high 18:05 4.9m

Weather:nice between the showers and light wind from the north

Bait:lug,mackerel,sandeel,squid

Rigs:2 hook flapper,feathers,pully

Results:1 thornback ray,2 pollack,1 dogfish

Report:I decided to try find some new marks around north connemara, first I headed to a pier in kilary harbour and there were about 50 scuba divers in the water off the pier,it was temping to put on a 10/0 but I scrapped that idea and hit off to another road I saw on google earth,I was about half way down it when I met another car and had to reverse about 1km back to the main road so scrapped that idea as well
I picked a spot along the main road beside kilary harbour and set up,I got bites from the start first fish was a dogfish

then I found out where the ray go when they leave clifden on their winter holidays when I landed this fellow
kilary harbour ray.jpg
tried the feathers for awhile and only had one small pollack
kilary harbour pollack.jpg
I packed up and headed to a rock mark and tried for some wrasse,I had a few bites but no hook ups,I then headed to a beach and tried it for about 1hr but no bites, must have been from all the fresh water flowing in
I headed to another pier and had one more pollack before I decided to call it a night
