Hi all.
I'm heading down to Cork for a mid term family break.
Trabolgan is our destination from Friday 22nd October until Tuesday 26th October 2010.
Like with my summer holiday to Kerry the priority of this break will be the happiness of my daughter and niece. However I will try fit in 1 or 2 sessions.
So, I was hoping someone could advise me whether or not there are any half decent marks near or around Trabolgan please?
John D.

Hi,
There is white bay (beach), Roches point (fishing off the rocks, infront of the lighthouse), would probably be the nearest two and easiest to get to from Trabolgan.

Re: Any decent fishing near Trabolgan?
In Trabolgan itself: fishing from the pier at high water you will be fishing onto sand. Flounders would be a good possibility.
Round from the pier (l/h side as you walk down) there are some rocks, out on the point, where you could plug/pop/spin provided there is not brisk southerlies. You could do same on the r/h side towards Roches Pt. Keep an eye out though as you could get cut off by the coming tide in some areas here.
As mentioned: Out the gates of Trabolgan and turn left: Whitebay is on the right (beach fishing or plug/pop/spin from the rocks) . Roches pt. is further on up. At the lighthouse – plug/pop/spin or bait for wrasse.
Out the gates turn right and you will hit Guileen - plug/pop/spin in Guileen r/h or l/h from the village (about 3 miles from Trabolgan).
Inch bay is only about six miles away, (a couple of miles from Guileen) if you want some beach fishing…. Ballybrannigan – Ballycroneen few miles beyond that again.
If you want a break from Trabolgan try Rosies in lower Aghada, great food. The long point in Whitegate is good for a scoop as well. There’s a fine playground in Whitegate as well. Oh there’s a small tackle shop in Whitegate as well as the pub in Guileen (pub in Guileen opens after tea).
Enjoy!

Re: Any decent fishing near Trabolgan?
Re: Roches point.
I fished there for the first time recently. I parked just at the bend before you come down to the lighthouse, beside the gate (but not in front of the gate). Then I walked across the field. If going this way, make sure you do not leave any gates open or damage fences etc. I'm not sure if there are other ways to access the rocks but this is how I did it. If anyone has other info please post it!
The climb down to the rocks can be tricky, especially if you are laden down with gear, rod rests etc, so try keep gear to a minimum, so you will have your hands free for climbing and stability. I learned this the hard way.
The ground is very rough here, and you can lose a lot of tackle, so rig up accordingly. If you check out this site http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,584551,565655,4 and pick the ortho 2005 on the right for satellite image, zoom in on the coast. You can probably pick out one of the sandier spots, if you can access the rocks from the cliffs.
This spot is only really suitable for mild weather fishing because if there are even light southerly winds it can be very rough. I have to stress, access isn't the easiest, but the catches can be worth it. There's lots and lots of pollack and wrasse; high water fishing the best. Hope this is of use.

Re: Any decent fishing near Trabolgan?
Would have said you have you are based in prime location for bass upto the week end but very strong reports of a boat from kerry that took 13 boxes of bass from power head to roches point very recently which is a joke especially as the boat went aground and had to be helped so they could continue fishing, only good point when boat tried offloading fish in crosshaven nobody would touch the fish so away to tralee with them to offload their illegal catch.
Drop me a pm closer to the date and i'll try put you onto a few fish of sorts.
Tight lines
