lads, im going to start making a few pirks for a wreck fishing trip in the next couple of weeks, i have the gear - lead, chrome bar, the gear for melting and pouring the lead - any hints or tricks out there for making pirks?
also what weight should i be making them, going to be fishing in 100meters of water in neap tides?
also are there any of the big well know DIY shops doing split rings? i need big split rings and the local fishing shops only have small rings

Try get keyrings free somewhere, the rings might work for you ?

Cut the angles in the top and bottom of the chrome tube before you pour the lead. (Obvious, but you'd be surprised).
Stand the tube in a bucket of hard compacted sand when you're pouring the lead - stops the lead running out the bottom of the tube. Get it so there's enough of a plug of sand in the bottom of the tube to do this.
Don't hold the tube in your hand when you're pouring - use tongs/grips!

I put 8oz of lead in the ones i made , I got key rings in woodies
