Hi guys
Just started back angling after a looong gap
the guys on the boat q&a section helped me out with some good info
Now I am giving the beach a blast and heading out with my local club
and I don't want to look like an arse using shop bought rigs so could you
kind and loving folk give me a few examples of rigs I could tie myself
I think the beach we are going to throws up all sorts of flatties and dogs
any help would be most welcome
Cathal

Re: rigs from the beach
There is nothing wrong with using shop bought rigs but if you can use a tackle shop like Gerry's of Morecambe who sell bulk bags of rig bits like swivels, beads, crimps, hooks and so on,you can pretty much make any rig you desire better and at a fraction of the cost.

Re: rigs from the beach
I got myself a couple of packs of swivels, beads and the like just wondering what sort of rigs to make up for flounder and plaice, should I buy a shop rig and copy them
Just been out of the loop for so long and everything has changed, lightness of gear and so on
Another question
I put 20lb braid onto my fixed spool beach reel and atached a 40 shockleader but the knot sometimes catches the braid when casting, and pulls the braid out causing a bit of a tangle, any remedy's for this.I used an albright knot

Re: rigs from the beach
I have the same problem with the shock line. I was talking to an angler the other day who says he doesn't bother with a shockline for that very reason, just make sure you use 25-30lb main line.
With regard to making rigs, i generally make 3 hook flapers or a pennel rig they seem to do the job for me!

Brilliant thread here with lots of info. Definately worth a flick through. http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... =6&t=19414
I'm not a user of braid or shock-leader myself so can't really offer any insight.

If you're going to a nice clean beach I'd recommend a Loop/Millenium Rig if you require a bit of distance.

Re: rigs from the beach
I agree with jonnyj on the braid. I started using braid 2 years ago and its much better without using a shock leader. I started with 50lb but use 30ld now and it works well. I find it better than using regular line and not having to use a shock leader saves more time and is less hassle. As for rigs I personally find that a 2 hook flapper and pulley rig would be the most common ones I use through the season.
