are there any fish in Irish waters?!!

#1 Post by daminim »

Morning all,

What a week of blanks it has been for me, wondering if its just me or has it been an unproductive time for anyone else?

Since last monday I have been bait faishing all around Ireland and blanked every time. Ok, im fairly new to shore angling, although I am not a total novice. I have fished Crosshaven bay in Cork - zilch, Killkee Co Clare - nada, Beaches within Kenmare Bay - diddly squat, and last night in Kiliney - you guessed it - BLANK!! Ive been using multiple bait combinations, every rig under the sun and cursing about every 10 seconds during these sessions. So to say the last 2 weeks or so of fishing have knocked my confidence a tad is an understatment. Im going to chance Galway at the weekend. Cant wait, lets hope there's some suicidal fish!!

Tight Lines!

This week we have had ray to 8lb, huss to 12lb, wrasse to 4lb, pollack to 6lb plus trigger fish, doggies etc.
Stop running around looking for the fish and get some good local info and concentrate on that place for a few days.
Live out on the beautiful Beara Peninsula. Always willing to assist visiting anglers.

Thats fishing for ya Conor.

In May I spent 14 hours one day spinning for a Spring Salmon on the Moy. I did not see a Salmon all day and was messing about with the Flying C at the end of the day in the water about three feet away from the rock I was standing on. A nice Spring Salmon (~ 15LB) appeared from under the side of a boulder about two feet way from me and hammered the lure and the fight began.... To cut a long story short, I eventually got it into the net and when I went to lift the net it made one last lunge, the net ripped the Flying C out of its mouth and then it dissappeared out the front of the net. I was absolutley gutted and have to admit I nearly cried   Did it put me off Salmon fishing ? Did it fcuk ! Thats Angling !

Get out to Clifden, fish Gerrys marks and your faith will be restored  ;)

If ye can't catch out that direction I would take up knitting    :) Bring some nice fresh rag and some frozen squid and catch a few mackeral out there and you should be good for some nice Wrasse, Huss and Ray. Bring a spinning setup as there are also some lovely big Pollack to be had out and about also..

Just back from there meself had some Pollack, Mackeral, Ray, Wrasse, Doggies, a 10lb Huss, Pouting, Launce and Spider Crabs to mention a few  off marks I've discovered over the years.. Sometimes you gotta wade through a few blanks to discover new marks but when you hook up at a marks of your own discovery it makes it all worthwhile..........

Keep the faith and hopefully Neptune will reward you

There's no doubt about it: consistent blanks will run anyone's confidence into the ground. That said, you might have it worse. I have a friend who we'll charitably call 'Jonah.' now Jonah has been fishing with me on and off for three years, and--get this--in that time he has never caught a single fish. It was only last week when he caught some trash codling on all night session that his drought finally ended. Credit where it's due, his perseverance made Donal Og Cusack look like a quitter.

Anyway, hope Galway throws something up for you!

Worst comes to the worst you can always join the masses along the prom and catch a few dozen mackeral.....save the blank... :D
