Hi all and first off, many thanks for this great site and to all the posters!
I live in Cornwall atm (from Co. Antrim originally), and taking the family on a (fishing) holiday to Ireland in October. I've spent a bit of time reading through the many posts here and as bass fishing is what we really want to do, Kerry seems the best spot - Dingle in particular. Could anyone comment on my choice please? Is there better or is Dingle fishing well at the moment?
Also, where in Dingle are the best marks for Bass? I've read that Inch seems to be pretty good, but again, any help confirming that would be great!
Is bait easy enough to buy round Dingle or is Tralee the only place to buy it? Will be looking for peelers and worm, live sand-eel would be nice so any tips where to source them is appreciated.
Many thanks in advance for any advise you can give me.
Derek

Re: Request for help on choosing our holiday location!
Hi Derek,I also live in cornwall(newquay) I am going over to Ireland on the 22nd of sept, for a weeks fishing with a mate of mine, and at the moment I am also trying to get as much info as poss about the fishing and bait buying/digging. I have a friend of a friend who has fished around the Dingle area on quite a few times and I am speaking to him over the next few days so I will pass on any info he gives me and will also let you know how I get on and where we fished when we get back. Cheers Garry

Personally, I head to Wexford rather than Kerry for my Bass fix. If you're travelling by ferry into Rosslare, Wexford is well worth a second thought.

Thanks for the tip Tanglerat. We will be coming in via Rosslare but will be renting a cottage in Dingle (probably in Inch) so we'd rather travel as little as possible and fish as much as possible.
Cheers again for the info

In that case, you should park up half a mile from the Rosslare Ferry and fish, saving the travelling time to and from Kerry.
Not that I've got anything against Kerry, mind you. It's just surprising the number of UK anglers who arrive into Rosslare to head straight off to Cork and Kerry - driving right past the best Bassing in the country....

Re: Request for help on choosing our holiday location!
A couple of us headed down recently for our first time. The amount of marks is abit mind boggling to say the least. Take one day at the start to explore some marks and pick the right time to fish them. We made to mistake of turning up at marks at the wrong times (tides mainly).
Pick up a copy of
A Guide to Shore Angling on the Dingle Peninsula in Ireland compiled by Bob Moss
Its a very good book that gives an account for the whole penninsula. pick it up in Landers in Tralee or maybe try the tourist info in Dingle.

Theres a sports shop in Dingle town that does frozen bait. mack, lug, sandeel and quid.
Landers in Tralee would be your best bet to get all your bait and tackle.
We got Bass on the beach to the right of Brandon pier, Conger and Pollack on the pier in Ventry and as many wrasse as you can handle on Dingle pier.
Enjoy its a lovely spot!
