possible conger ?

#1 Post by syboit »

Hi,

Last night we had a fair tug/lash on the rod and line ran for a bit and then went tight. And there was no way of getting it back, eventually the line of the rig broke. We were using a home made rig (made from 24lb line) with 2 hooks, size 2 and size 4, we were basically letting it trawl along the bottom hoping for flatfish. Bait was lugworm tipped with some slivers of mackerel.
We have taken some decent sized dogfish with the same setup previously, but never had anything like the tug last night. Any chance this would have been a conger ? Would a conger be even attracted to a small piece of mackerel bait ?

thanks...

dont think youl ever know, but there are numbers of small sub 10lb conger of the garrtyvoe/ballycotton beaches, so its definitley a possibilty
species for 2009 (42)
species for 2010 (27)
species for 2011 (12)
species for 2012 (8)
best advice for catching species is girls dont like fishing and its hard to catch fish when you sell all your gear'
