SLIDING FLOAT
Hi guys, what way do you tie the elastic band to the line as a float stopper? Im new to this type of fishing, and got it wrong, then tried again and got right , i think..., i used the bead as instructed, but sometimes the elastic band stopper slid up the line, so i was fishing bottom
Entries now open for the All Ireland Shore Cod Championships on November 29th hosted by Sea Angling Ireland SAC

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
hey, your suposed to be able to slide the elastic to change the dept but the knot still shouldnt be loose. I dont use elastic anymore. Instead I tie this knot with a spare piece of line http://www.google.ie/imgres?imgurl=http ... 29,r:1,s:0 hope that helps

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
i like to tie a stop knot out of powergum at desired depth sometimes fishing 30 odd feet easy to reel through eyes and cast out.

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
I used to use the sliding stop knot tied using power gum. It doesn't damage the main line, casts no problem and easy to adjust. I now use rubber float stops. They do the exact same job and they're the simplest and quickest method of setting up a float rig. Photo of them below. Available in most tackle shops for about €1.50 for 15 i think.

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
I prefere a knot with Mono or powergum...you need to leave about an inch of a Tag to help the knot pass through the guides corrcetly. The problem with the float stops is that they sometime snag the eyes during the cast.

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
I've a few different sizes of float stops and don't find any problem casting with them. Saying that though, the power gum is probly the most streamlined option but i still stick with the float stops.MAC wrote:I prefere a knot with Mono or powergum...you need to leave about an inch of a Tag to help the know pass through the guides corrcetly. Re: SLIDING FLOAT
what i do is simply loop a snap swivel onto my line and attach the float to this,
as the swivel is only looped it can be adjusted to any lenght.

Hey Evan. How exactlydo ya use these. Have a few of them in the tackle box but never knew what they are for. Is the whole thing one stop or are the little beads the stops?

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
Sorry about the poor attempt at the diagram but hopefully you'll know what i'm talking about.Jayball10 wrote:evan699 wrote:I used to use the sliding stop knot tied using power gum. Each little rubber bead is a single stop. Usually about 15 of them on 3 loops of gut. The large plastic ring is the top and the gut loops are the bottom. Pass the line that you want the stop on (blue line in diagram) through one of the loops at the bottom (red line in diagram) and fold it back on itself. Slide the bead off the stop holder and onto your main line, past the section that you folded over, and move it to where you want the stop. That's it. Hope that helps.

Re: SLIDING FLOAT
Hello. Very much a beginner at this kind of fishing so this may be a silly question but how do you match float size to the weight your using. Also at what kind of a distance and in what weather conditions would you use a sliding float rig. Cheers.
