Achill Sound/ Achill island info please

Hey everyone ive booked a house in Achill Sound close to Achill island i was wondering if its safe to fish the water between the island and mainland. I wanted to do some day and evening fishing with my kids they love it, ive a couple of beachcasters and a spinning rod with some feathers, any tips on bait digging locations would be great as well the kids love searching for crabs for me. will put some reports up with what i catch when i get back in sept.

I never fished the current between the island and the mainland, but there are plenty other marks on the island.
