Bought my first spool of braid recently for my shimano aerlex. I usually use the albright knot for mono to mono but wondering will it hold up for 20lb braid to 60lb mono shock leader? I snipped off a bit and tied a few testers. Seems fine. Any advise? Any better knots I should try? I know a rubbing leader would be nessesary for rough ground but for beaches is a shock leader needed at all for braid? Should I just put 60lb braid on the whole reel if I wanna cast a 6oz lead?
So many questions. So little time...
Cheers,
Jay.

I use the albright knot and it works fine, but just remember if the knot doesn't look right, then do it again.... nothing worse than watching your leader disapear!!
I would certainly recomend a shock leader with braid, as there is no stretch at all..... better and safer than regular snap off's
Braid straight through is helpful if there is weed on a beach from what I'm told, but yeh you'd need to up it to 50/60lb braid really, thats what others seem to fish with.
I used 30lb braid straight through on a light bass rod with a 4000 size reel last saturday for the 1st time on the beach, it was grand casting leads upto 3oz, no bother at all.
I'm not experienced with fishing braid though, so couldnt comment on the heavier rods/weights.
i would still recommend the use of a shock leader, especially if your going up to 6oz weights, better safe than sorry. the knot that i use for braid to leader is the slimbeauty, its very easy to tie and is very strong. http://www.netknots.com/html/slim_beauty_knot.html
