ballycotton breakwater????????????

was thinking of targeting some flatties off the ballycotton breakwater has anyone fished there for them and how did it go what traces were used and whats the best bait for them and is it worth headin down.

A waste of time. Your line would not last 5 minutes in the water before some macka basher would haul it in.

Donal is bang on. The mack bashers are always out in numbers. I got in an argument with a few of them last summer and decided it wasn't worth it anymore. Not in the summer months anyway.

Forget it,better if u try the Congers-u will be lucky,not with the flatties...

pity, I too was hoping to fish for some flatties here. Come September I've found it gets quieter when the mackerel are gone.

The mack were still being caught down there last september so i wouldn't be too sure about it being much quieter.

I did one or two days at the start of sept. last year and caught nothing. Didnt think they mackerel would be still there that long.

I caught them down there in september. Just landed 3 or 4 and went back to bait fishing which didn't work as the mack bashers were out in force as soon as the word got out that they were being caught. They also turn up in ballycotton very early in the season. Very patchy but they are caught there earlier than most marks.

yup, have caught them in may this year (one or two). But as you've said, when it gets busy down there is hectic. caught 2 mackerel there last night even though the tide wasn't in for ages. Very quite there last night so decided to try some bait fishing, but only caught a crab

Tried a few times with no luck, I would think low tide is better there as they may move onto the beaches with the flood... yet to be tried tho

I've seen small ones off the beach at low tide all the same.

my friend was there yesterday and packed up around high water. he got a belt of a spinner into the back of the head( i shouldnt laugh) and said leads were flying all over the place and didnt feel safe with his 8year old. plenty of macks caught there tho.

Anyone ever have any luck up and over the hill from the breakwater? Always thought it looked good but ive never tried it.

I would tend to head across the bay to shanagarry or garryvoe you would have a quieter time fishing away from the mackheads.
