bait:rag mac limpet and a prawn

report:got to the rocks around half twelve with a light rain stuck a mackerel in the bait net i got from veals. cast out a limpet and rag combo for wrasse and caught weed onur me friend tried spinning for bass off the rocks with no luck. i pulled in the bait net and hada baby codling in it and a micro sized flat. several hours later the bait net was still the only thing that was working it caught me more baby pollack codling crabs a sea scorpion and a prawn which was used as bait.soon after the first fish was caught on ragworm a small pollack only about 20cm across.a couple of lost rigs later onur caught two pollack one after the other on a mackerel stinger both nearly 30cm across. nothing after that only a fat coalfish in the bait net.

no whiting? i,m in shock that bait net sounds interesting ,plenty of life around them rocks just small unfortunatley

yea i was fishing greystones last weekend and saw plenty of small fish close to the shore.

do the bait nets cost much ?

the bait nets cost ten euro from veals they at are called livebait traps I think they are worth getting if there are are a shoal of sandeels or Joey mackerel you have a chance of getting them and they can also catch prawns crabs small wrasse whiting and just about anything small enough to get.but I do warn you they are very very addictive.they're easy to use too all you have to do is throw in a few mac heads or a whole mackerel or some squid and tie it to something and throw it in.using them on the beach will only catch crabs they are best used off piers or rocks.wat I always do is set the net up first that honestly takes two minutes as they are quite small and then my rods then 20-30minutes later pull it in

the only tackle shop I know that also sells them is rorys tackle shop in dublin he does different ones to the ones on veals I think I've seen them work and I personally would say they are better than the veals ones
