Clew Bay, Mayo 18.07.10
People: JAKES, chrisfeeney30 & myself
Duration: 18:00-00:00
Tide: HT @ 23:50 4.3m
Weather: Dry, humid wind SW F2
Bait: Mackerel, Squid & sandeel
Rigs: Pulleys, Long & Lows
Results: Bullhuss, Thornback Ray & Dogs
Report: After last weekends successful trip to North Connemara where petekd, the scotsman, vinnycorrigan and myself enjoyed some super Ray fishing with over 16 Thornies caught to 5lbs and a good few doggies to boot decisions were yet to be made of where to fish this weekend I had planned on hitting Wexford to fish for smuts but with a bearing gone in one of the wheels of my car that curtailed the trip until next weekend..... after getting a phone call from Jakes who had a new mark picked out in Clew Bay that he's been itching to try out the decision was settled Clew Bay it was so the three of us set of to suss it out. After a bit of orienteering we got set up at the chosen mark fishing into a deep gulley fed by a channel. Jakes was first in with a dog followed soon after by myself with a Huss of 5lbs 10ozs and Jakes had a Thornie at the same time... It went quiet for a bit then i got a nice rattle and I was reeling in what felt like a good fish and was chatting to chris who was beside me when we heard Jakes calling chris went up to give him a hand as he was also in to good fish. I reeled in mine a Thornie of 6lbs 8ozs and went up to see what all the commotion was about... i arrived up to where Jakes was fishing to see a good sized Huss on the bank and Jakes playing another good fish happy days.... I picked up Jakes Huss and held it in the water along with my Ray while Jakes was landing the other fish another Huss and bigger again a fine Huss of bang on 12lbs a new PB for Jakes cracking fish the first was 9lbs 4ozs... few pics and back all three went unharmed. Chris was next in with a Huss of 5lbs it was busy for an hour or two after with Chris & Jakes picking up another few Huss more Ray for us all and some dogs made and appearance... There were 10 Huss caught in total from 5lbs up to 12lbs with two over 9lbs..... 6 Thornback Ray with 2 fish of 6lbs 8ozs and a few dogs some fishing for a new mark and one we'll be back to again.

Re: Clew Bay, Mayo 18.07.10
Excellent fishing lads. That was some amount of huss. Am sure Peter had a smile on his face for the rest of the session. Am still happy that I still have the biggest huss in the club and crow will vouch for that
Can't wait to do some sea fishing in a few months time
