Sligo Peir Sunday 04/07/10

#1 Post by SHANE R »

People: Me

Duration: 2 1/2 hours

Tide: Rising

Weather: Windy to say the least

Bait: Lug, mack, sandeel

Rigs:flappers, conger

Results: 20+ Ballan Wrasse to 4lb, 4 corkwing wrasse and one pollack

Report:
Had a trip planned to a beach mark this morning but I knew it was a non runner before i got out of bed. There was a gale blowing outside. Headed to a peir mark that I knew would be sheltered but i'd never had much luck at. I know a few mullet had been caught here last year by Zeke but as soon as I seen the mark I knew mullet weren't on the cards far too choppy. Got the conger rod in first and then sent out a rod with a flapper. As soon as I sat back in the van to eat my breakfast roll the rod with the flapper started nodding. I struck and landed a nice ballan wrasse got him back in the water sharpish and finished my breakfast. I took out the spinning rod and got a small pollack first cast. No sign of any macks. I tried fishing down the side of the wall with the spinning rod and lug on a single hook and i hit the jackpot. Had 16 wrasse in about 45 minutes the best a cracker at 4lb's. In between hopping off wrasse on the spinning rod I was getting a few on the other rod. the fishing was so hectic I never got a chance to get any pictures. I never got a touch on the conger rod but they can wait till next time. This will be a cracker of a mark if the mullet come back too.

Cheers
Shane
