Shore Angling, West Coast

Lads, im going to Doolin end of July, Early August.
I used to do a lot of fishing with the grandad when i was a lad. Mostly mackeral and a bit of boat fishing. I did watch him shore angling but as i was very young and we didnt do that fishing too often i cant remember.
Im planning on doing a bit of fishing in Lahinch, and Doolin, for Bass and Flounder.
What other fish can be cought here from the beach or rocks??
Whats the best way to fish them?
Sorry for the questions,
Im mainly a course angler with some fly fishing.
Any help would be great.

Take care if you venture onto the rocks...be very sure before going down onto the ledges that the Tide has dropped...leave yer gear high and always watch the sea as there are alot of 'freak' waves along that coast...enjoy tis a great part of the world...

Yea was down in Lahinch last year but didn fish. Is a lovely part of the country alright.

You used to be able to get Pollock off the rocks to the right of the pier but I've not got anything the last couple of times I was down there

Try a bit of wrasse wrestling off the Ballyreen ledges (on road north from Doolin to Fanore, see o/s map). Bottom very broken and weedy close in so use junk weights (spark plugs) and a rotten bottom. Limpets and hardback crab work fine. Foraging pollock there will take float-fished sandeel or mackeral strip on the right day - a bit dull and choppy.

A lot of sand has been washed around that mark and most of the wrasse have been eaten, the pollack will follow them soon.
The horseshoe at Doolin should give some good sport for pollack, firetails, wildeye sandeel or natural sandeel took good fish last year.

Is it any good for the lure fishing for bass around lahinch?? Anywhere to throw an oul patchinko or xlayer

Things got in the way and im now heading on thursday for a few days. What line should i use for bass and mackeral? Im mostly a coarse fisher, and pike. Is Bass stil in season? Is it late for mackeral yet?

the mackerel are in all through Galway bay at the moment best times just before dusk on silver feathers.
Youve got a good few months before the closed season for bass(May 15th next year)
