Hi, I was fishing a tidal estuary last night for a few early sea trout and saw what I thought were mullet. Seemed to be there in good numbers. Could you tell me the setup to catch. mullet? KNow there are a few guys here that target them with bread etc. Could you tell me the rig setup etc as I believe they are great craic to catch. Thanks

Once you have the story on catching mullet let us know... my experience is close but never setting the hook into the mouth, the feckers have a knack off eating the bread but not the hook... Im sure somebody will tell me the hook was too big but it was tiny!

Cheers,

Choco

I use 4lb mainline,small white float,3-4 foot of 6lb fluoro and a size 8-6 hook.
Pinch the bread around the eye of the hook but dont cover the point of the hook.
Take a quarter slice of bread and rip it up in to thumb nail size pieces.Wet it if you need to throw it out any distance.
Fish DOWN to the mullet if possible. If there is lots of movement on the surface but nothing taking the free offerings of bread then i would sink my hook bait by wetting it then squeezing the water out of it.This should work if the water is a few feet deep at the most.Thats why i use a 3-4 foot hook length.

hope it works.its served me well over the years.
could be worth doing a search on here if you need anymore info. There has been plenty of topics on mullet in recent years.

good luck.

There's no big deal micko. It's my choice if I want to Pm someone my information or put it up for everyone to see. What's your problem and what business is it of yours anyway? Your the one making a big deal out if it. I never said that I had a special technique either!
And by the way, I do know how to catch them, have a look here:

if any individual angler wants to share their proven method's, then its the individual's right on weather to make it public or by pm to friends. as far as your last sentance on your post; well if you look at the anglers past threads you will see that results of their technique works.
as ole rab c said " see me' see the sea' i love the sea me"

Mullet WILL drive you mad, they really have to be in the mood to feed, try gound baiting with Mack and bread mix to get them feeding, on bread flake.

One tried and tested way to catch mullet seems to be as follows,
1,Follow a mullet angler who is going round different spots trying to get the mullet to feed.
2,Watch from a distance to see if they have got the mullet feeding and wait to see what way they are fishing that particular area.
3,Tell everyone who will listen about said mark and invite them down to fish it.
4,Spend the rest of the season fishing the mark and passing it off as your own.

Hope this helps and if any problems arise from from the angler who put in the work to find the mark and get the mullet feeding the done thing seems to be to threaten them in front of their kid.

Good luck.

You forgot a one colin,
5,Fish downtide of them and pick of any mullet working up the bread trail before they get to the poor sod doing all the leg work and groundbaiting.
If someone shows you a mark to fish, respect it and dont pass it of as one of your own, dont tell every man and his dog about it.
