A good time was had, great report and some lovely fish landed,well worth the drive down delighted it went so well and to get a few on the lures top job myself and the lads are still waiting for the first lure caught Bass of the year
If the Kerry Bass would only get a move on and head up to the sunny south east.....

Cheers carpets. It was well worth the long drive down as it always is. It was great to catch on the lures but the problem we found we had as you will already know only too well was that we ended up not knowing what ones to use first as we have that many to choose from!!
I hope it's not long before you's all catch your first lure caught bass, fingers crossed they head up to the sunny south east soon

cracker of a trip norman and paula, the one in that first pic is a cracker thats a lot of mileage you's put up, but you's got great results for your trip, bet you's went home happy campers congrats on a very successful trip

Thanks Don, the first fish is a cracker isn't it........K2 always seems to get at least one big one now everytime we are away. I wish I could get one that size, my biggest bass is 5lb which I suppose is still a nice fish but not as nice as that first one above. My time will come - hopefully.

Ta birdseye. It isn't far off specimen size that's for sure but without weighing it we'll never know what it's actual size was. We're not that bothered really in knowing either, it was just nice to see a fish like that in real life and then having the pleasure of seeing it swim away again to freedom when releasing it back in. Very cool.

Sorry if it seems to be taking me ages to reply to everyone who put a comment up on my report but I don't have a computer at the moment and so I only get the chance to come on-line and reply to you all is when I can get access to one. I'll get there eventually.

Well done, fantastic fishing by all accounts. What kind of plugs were ye using?

Thanks Ronnach. We used several different types of plugs from sub-surface ones, diving plugs to poppers. The yo-zuri mag popper is one of our favourite ones to use when targeting bass but the newest one we have that we found to be really good is the BW Maria chase - a very good lure, fantastic action in the water and well worth the money. if you don't have one, go get one!

The first fish of Norman's is a nice fish but mine aren't too bad either eh It was really good to have caught so many but it isn't always like that, it can be hard work most of the time actually, not easy at all. I think we got lucky and hit it at a really good time. We're spoilt now.

Absolutely superb, I take my hat off to both of you. For the time and effort put in and distance travelled you deserve every success. You're a shining light for Bass fishing in this country and an example of why we should put every effort into preserving the recreational fishery that we have. Well done!!!

K2 and I are really passionate about bass fishing in this country and we really hope that the hard work and effort that is being done by everyone to protect this precious species pays off and that it remains a fish that we can all fish for and hopefully catch recreationally for years to come without the threat of our irish bass stocks being destroyed forever. This will happen if the government allow them to be fished for commercially and this could soon be not only a threat but reality.
That's why it is so important that we all do our upmost to have our voices heard by the government so that they do not allow our bass that we love so much to be fished for commercially because this would be a disaster.
K2 and I would both like to take this opportunity to urge anyone who hasn't already done so to go and log onto irishbass.org and become a friend of bass. By doing this you will be suppporting the guys who behind the scenes are working very hard to protect this very precious species from the potential nightmare I refer to above. This website has also got alot of useful and up-to-date information on bass fishing in this country as well as other useful links of interest.

Wow that's some super fishing and great photos too , I'm delighted for you both and a little jealous too if I'm honest. I've a trip to Dingle planned in June and after reading that report I cannot wait to get back down there again, beautiful part of the country with some superb fishing.

Thanks Danny, it was great to get out plugging again. K2 was dying to get using his new plugging rod that he had bought - the new 8ft bushwhacker rod and he wasn't disappointed in it, it whipped out the plugs without having to put much effort into the cast, even in a head wind it got the biggger, heavier plugs out to where he wanted it to go with no problem at all.

Great fishing. I must pack the car and head down that way myself some weekend soon. If i get one i'll be happy, I don't think i'd be able to leave if i was getting results like that. Well done.

Thanks evan, it was hard to leave but unfortunately we had to come home I hope you get one soon yourself. As I have already mentioned in my report at the start, lugworm and razorfish are the best two baits for bass down there. If your wanting to get a few on the plugs then get either the BW maria chase in silver holigraphic or the yo-zuri mag popper. They are both very good plugs and we have caught most of our fish on them. Good luck.

The bushwacker is a very nice rod indeed. It casts plugs very well and gives you a good scrap when you have a fish on. It casts well even in a strong head wind which is needed in this country more than enough with our weather! It's not too stiff and not too soft, just right giving you the confidence to cast without worrying about breaking it or losing a plug if you punch it out hard.

I wish they where like mackerel, it would mean that we could fish for them up at home all summer long without having to travel the distance we do but unfortunately they aren't so I guess the mileage in the car is just gonna go up and up and up until we move down there.
