Orlock and Donaghadee Sun 21st March

Weather - Sunny with southerly wind

Time 3.30pm - 6.30pm

Tide - Falling

Bait - Mack fillets and black lug

Rigs - 2 hook flappers, various traces and spinners etc

Results - not even a bite.....Blank

Thought i would give the North Down coast a we blast as i didnt fancy the 100 mile round trip up the antrim coast so last minute i packed up and headed towards bangor. Got to Orlock and there was nobody at the usual spots so thought at least i would get a spot to fish. Sent one road out about 80 yards and tried spinning with the other after an hour i had no bites and the baits were coming back untouched. The wind was picking up so after another 30 mins i decided to move on round to try donaghadee, again the pier was empty (probably a sign that fishing really is poor at the minute) no bites so i packed up at half 6 and headed home to make some grub.

Id say the falling tide and fact it was light didnt do me any favours, thats my last 2 sessions have been blanks, seems getting out on the boat is the only way to go

fishing is poor at the moment but daylight fishing is the worst option wait till an hour before dark and even a few hours fishing should be more productive than sitting on a mark all day in the brightness,then again if you are on your own night fishing can be scarry sometimes boat fishing can be poor aswell i,ve had a lot more bad trips out in boats than i,ve had off the shore and they cost me alot more for my troubles

fishing around around here at this time of the year is quite poor give it another month and id say it will have become more productive!

unlucky barry. we've given up fishing during the day. total dead loss. might be a longer drive but the county antrim coast is without question outfishing co down. unless you like 3 inch flatties and whiting that is . just don't give up hope as it will all be a different story in 4 weeks or so

Cheers fellas, i would normally fish at night but i just wanted to get out as it was a nice day but yeah theres not much point in day fishing at the moment.

Maybe in a month or so some pollack and mack might start to show round the rockier marks......its frustrating though when u put the effort in plus the costs on bait and fuel and ya dont even get a bite....still nice to be outside with the sun on your back

Burt, having fished Orlock alot of the years I'll offer you this advice; don't go near the place till May. It just doesn't produce at all till then.

Unlucky man, hard going at the mo. Fished bangor pier last night, I blanked my mate got 1 pollock of about 30cm. On a toby that's how desperate we wer.

Unlucky there as Al said might of been better if you would have headed up antrim coast. Me and Al fished Donagadee a few weeks ago and fishing was quite poor some fish were size of finger hopefully it will pick up in a couple of weeks

unlucky mate. we did some crazy miles on paddy's day from belfast to beone back to waterfoot and got nothing either. Hard to get back more drive again after a spendin the guts of £90 quid to catch nothing...
