dungloe-Donegal

hi lads,
I am heading up to the dungloe area of donegal soon but not sure where exactly yet. Does anyone know a place around here that is within cycling distance thats good to fish and is fairly comfortable in a west or northerly wind?
I will ask a more detailed question in a day or two when I know where it is I am going,lucky you . I am just guesing the Dungloe area right now so info need not be too detailed,yet .
Also does anybody know a good hotel around dungloe area, preferably close to Maghery/Menacross(don't think there is one) as this will determan where I can fish.

Ostann na Rossan in Dungloe is a nice hotel, the number is 074 9522444. You would be within cycling distance of Cruit and the eastern shore towards crab rocks would give shelter and a bit of depth.

I'd give Cruit a miss if there has been strong or even sustained north or west wind. Very dodgy. Kincasslagh, just north of Burtonport - nearer Dungloe than Cruit - is better sheltered and should throw up some pollock and coley although they all seem to be tiny this year in that part of the world.

thanks for the suugetions. Im just going to widen the area a bit further now.Anyone know of a good hotel around an area of lets say up to 40 mins from dungloe with good fishing now(preferably deepish rock or pier) near by e.g Kincasslagh,Dunfanaghy? etc.
P.S. can you catch wrasse here now or is it too late.

You could base yourself in Letterkenny. It's about 40 minutes either way to Melmore/Downings, Burtonport/Dungloe/Kincasslagh/Cruit, Falcarragh, Dunfanaghy etc. No shortage of hotels. Clanree, Mt Errigal, Radisson - plus plenty others. Should still be a few wrasse about. They won't really vanish until after we get a really big blow out of the west/north-west.

You had much luck from Kincasslagh Sandman? I tried it four or five times in the past and it has been very poor except for one really windy night. It used to get mentioned in the Ireland section of Sea Angler when they ran such reports, codling & whiting were always mentioned. All I got on it was coalies, congers, dogs and rockling.

Never tried Kincasslagh myself, I fish the other side of the bay. Usually plenty of pollock and coley there (so small as to be a waste of time this year). Whiting are rare. Dogs always possible but there don't seem to be too many about. I don't bother with conger anymore, not much sport (imho) in winching them out of the water and they're not exactly hard to tempt. I've never found a satisfactory way of cooking them either....

I've heard a lot of people say Kincasslagh can be good over the years and read piles of great sounding reports. I'd say like a lot of the north west, it's had it's day. There are two trawlers that weather permitting tow the whole bay clear about once every week or two. Sound familiar to anyone? Still, Kincasslagh is one of the more sheltered spots you can get a line off down that neck of the woods. Might get around to it yet.

I've tried Kincasslagh a few times this summer. Only caught mackerel and one pollack but it looks as if it has the potential for more.

Sorry about this lads but it seems were defo staying in annagry now which has completely thrown me as i don't think there is anywhere within walking distanceto go fishing which would mean not much point in going. So here is the deal, is there anywhere to fish here with just a spinning rod that is within say 45 minute walk? Please help, even if its just to say Your pretty sure theres not. I need this info A.S.A.P as will be booking the place tonight or tomorrow morning and need to know if i should go or stay and do some fishing here.
