Ditto, would really like to know how to catch the wee blighters and what to look for. Was thinking of buying a cast net to target them whilst swimming

Watched a program on Discovery Shed the other night and it showed a guy catching them with relative ease using nothing other than the back of a steak knife simply hoiked through the sand, they were shooting up and out of the sand and he got a dozen or so in no time. Looked really easy but would totally depend on finding an area where they are actually buried!!

ok so lads.. i have been looking at this beach for awhile now.. on the last spring tide i was digging fore lung and found a few sandell..so i done a little looking around the beach.. tried a few times since but no joy..so i tried this spring tide right down at the water edge on low tide. i found what looked like little indents in the sand so started to dig.. and there the buggers where.. i lost more than i got.. because i was useing a fork.. quick little buggers.. trying again in the morning with a little garden hand rake.. the avarage size was about 4inchs long and about the thickness of a stick of chalk........

The chap I was watching on TV didn't dig them at all, he just ran the back of a knife (blunt edge) through the sand and every second or third stroke a sandeel popped out!

The next time your digging sandeel, bring a old rain coat and dig onto it.
I seen a angler digging sandeel in waterford and it works.
I got a sandeel net a few years ago and one outing and i would have all the eels that i would need till the following year.
