donaghadee harbour co.down sat 20th feb 2010

#1 Post by Al and Jordan »

People: me and jordan

Duration: 5pm to 9pm

Tide: LW 9.30pm

Weather: dry 2mph winds but -2 degrees

Bait: rag, lug, mack and razor

Rigs: 3 hook fllappers

Results: ME 4 codling, 1 long spined sea scorpion and a shore rockling. JORDAN 1 codling

Report: not a great deal to report :( the fishing was very slow with all the fish coming within a 1 hour peroid. another father and son fishing duo came over for a chat to see how we were getting on as they were fishing off the back slope and only had 2 doggies. i told them about SAI as i think they were mainly coarse anglers who were looking to get into sea angling. so if your reading this welcome aboard guys :P . we left at 9pm as our bait bucked had frozen into a solid lump :| :| :| . but we went home and got our heads down as we were going to hit our co.down summer rock mark today :P :P . i checked 3 different websites for a forecast and they all said today was to be dry, sunny but cold. so you can imagine our disappointment when the alarm went off at 8am this morning and i opened the blinds to see our garden 3 inches deep in snow     ahh,,,, well. spose it's a good time to service the reels and re-tie our rigs

thanks man. like you said, that place either fishes really well or not at all :x :x . and the blanks are gonna be coming soon enough    . i went 8 sessions over 3 weeks last march before i caught a single fish    and that month is almost upon us again

    sadly that has become the norm for that mark lately  all the bigger cod (1lb+ fish  ) seem to be on up the antrim coast. donaghadee has become so slow lately we were just glad not to blank at it :( :( loads of nibbles from 3 inch pouting, poor cod, whiting and coalies. but they could'nt get their chops round a size 4 hook and we refused to drop to a lower size as you'd be into mini species tactics

That sounds grim - but at least you got a few fish - great to get a sea scorpion too - they are one of my favourite fish.
