bray harbour 25-01-10

People:Me and eefs

Duration:18:00 - 20:00

Tide:high bout 1830 I think

Weather: cold breeze, but dry

Bait:lugCrab

Rigs:2 Hook flappers, Pulley, drilled bullet/semi freeline

Results: 3 codling, 2 5 bearded rockling, 1 3bearded rockling..

report:
I had been out in sutton on sunday morning, just for over an hour, mainly to enjoy the peace, I do love that spot, the hum of the docks opposite the bay, but nothing was biting, baits coming back untouched..
So I decided to just pop out to Bray harbour tonight to cure the blank, and possibly add a few species..
got there at 6pm, pulley out far, flapper in close... nothing happened for first hour except me losing 3 rigs!!!! :evil:
I decided to use a simple drilled bullet, swivel,size 2 hook..... within 2 mins of casting this I had a few knocks, in came a fat little codling....only bout 20cm.. had another, then 2 5 bearded rockling, these little hoors are mean, anyone else ever find these little jerks tryin to nip ya or is it just me?? I got another great bite on the freeline, felt fish, but there was weight.... finally saw it break surface- 30cm cod, and a 5ft long branch!
last cast saw me get a new species- 3 bearded rockling.. quick sess, gonna have a longer session later this week...

Nice short session spindlefist well done.

But your 3 bearded rockling is a shore rockling :wink:

haha, cheers John, those bloody rockling should start wearing name badges...

They are a bit confusing alright.
I think the three bearded tend to be much bigger and have a strongly mottled colouration.
Cod season Winter 2013/14: 117 cod (best fish: 6.5 lbs)
Cod season Winter 2014/15: 193 cod (best fish: 4.25 lbs)

nice fishing man. good old bray saves the day again :P :P :P the rockling can be a bit confusing alright :lol: :lol: :lol: i did a bit of research a while ago on them for i.d. porposes in the Q&A section http://www.sea-angling-ireland.org/bull ... t=rockling

thanks Al, does help.. I've come up with a plan to help me avoid getting confused by the various kinds of rockling- catch bass instead of rockling... :D
