Bass being commercially exploited again!?

Many thanks to those of you who made positive replies to this post - there are a number of issues that do need to be resolved including some of the ones Tom mentioned (this can only be done through action) - there are 620 views of this post to date with 19 actual replies - some of which are repeat members posts.

• So far less than 2 percent of people viewing this post responded! This says a lot really.
  Why has it taken eight months (or more) to make any response to this from the various boards!
  Are there any responses/attempts at communication from any other organisations angling, tourism or otherwise?

Irishbass was created as an 'organic' entity that could evolve through input and contributions (not neccessarily financial) from anglers in any way that was positive - I think it still can do this is if anglers want to take ownership and responsibility. Dont blame Irishbass.org for at least trying....

We have a fantastic species that has recovered somewhat from near anihilation after 20 years of protection (ignoring the clandestine illegal fishing) - its fast, powerful, silver, sometimes big and looks great in photographs. Its a joy to catch on many methods and provides great fun to many people - from ireland and all over the world -

A national sportfish and treasure. Twenty years of that little recovery it could be destroyed VERY quickly - AGAIN!

Call me naive but I sent the following email to CFB

I just found the information that on the 16th December The Minister of State has received representations from Mr Tony Killeen TD, Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Food regarding a proposal by The Federation of Irish Fishermen (FIF) to allow Irish commercial fishing vessels to target sea bass and land it when caught in offshore waters.

As a bass angler I'm very concerned and was looking to find a way to act. I heard that the CFB have made submission on this outlining the reasons it should not be allowed. Please advice how can I (and other anglers) support CFB in an effort to outline the need of conservation of bass stocks. How anglers community can contribute towards resolving this issue.

Thank you all for your posts. I believe that we got much bigger potential to act as SAI community than as irishbass.org at least at the moment. Hopefully when we come up with some plan of action the administration of SAI SAC will be happy to help us.

Now question. What do ye all know about ukbass.com? They seems to be strong organization and commercial off-shore netting for bass around British Islands should be on their agenda. Does anyone of you know if these guys care at all about this issue?

Another question. (sorry ). What is the schedule for this political-wise? In other words are there any dates in this?

I will be speaking at the BASSUK AGM in March this year - these guys know there stuff and have done so for years. And of course they care.
