painting bass lures

hey lads can anyone recommend paint to paint a bass bandit with? i have tried using spray on but god it stinks and i am sure it wont help if a bass gets within an ass's roar of it1 I want to black up the lure for night fishing.
any ideas?

that plastic coat stuff would it work?

i used the stuff for cars but it did peel off after a few sessions
