Read the book and watched lots of behind the scenes stuff for this but haven't seen it yet. Looks very good (and depressing)

Re: The End Of The Line....
Just watched the clip that Tony referred to.
OMG that Wrasse like fish getting filleted when still alive and then the wire into the Tuna.
I expect nothing less from that part of the world to be honest, absolutely no respect for animals, they just eat everything, don't get me started on the Whales and the appearance of Whale Meat in restaurants again
"Its OK to eat fish because they don't have any feelings" .
Something in the Way ...........

Re: The End Of The Line....
Have to say Tony it was dimmed down a bit for TV. I'm still in shock from looking at the clips that were at the link you posted.
I suppose its like everything else in that it won't be missed until its gone. Some will say that Aquaculture is the answer but as was clearly pointed out in this movie that has major issues too.
The problem is as is with nearly everything else in this rapidly expanding globalised world in that there are huge entities in the background generating huge profits.
Abuse the resource, pillage it, make Trillions from it, until you can no longer and then move on i.e. Fossil Fuels, Precious Metals, Base Metals, The Amazon, The Sea, The Land Animals etc.. etc.. until we can pillage it no more.
As humans we are essentially parasites on this planet and we shall continue this way until the Illuminati decide otherwise

Re: The End Of The Line....
Yea dimmed down a lot don't know why maybe its because they just wanted to get the point out that the sea is being over fished and not cruelty to fish..think were wasting our time talking about this...
C&R debates get more interest but if there was less trawling and more fish out there would there be as much sh*ite talked about C&R and one for the pan..think we have to think about the bigger picture as its called

Re: The End Of The Line....
How do I know the fish I BUY is sustainable? I now get my sea food from a local monger and he tells me everytime where said clam or sole etc comes from but how do I know if its sustainable etc. I didn't catch one mackerel from the shore this year, not one. Last summer, I couldn't stop catching them, surely that's a sign of the times right on our doorstep! Should we not order/buy Cod or Tuna?
Its very worrying, not just as an angler but as a human!
Can anyone point me in the right direction of a website on sustainable fishing?
Thanks

Re: The End Of The Line....
yes we really are parasites and getting greedier and greedier all these fishermen who were thrown money by the eec back in the seventies to up grade the fishing fleet million pound trawelers after useing small fishing boats left by there grandfathers and where are they now? sitting in drydock dont have the quotas to fill them or the revenue to run them i know four different families lost there homes like this.greed are we ever going to learn the cod stocks that we thougth would never run out herrings even the mackeral when you see the damage these trawlers do to the sea bed it leaves you with afeeling of shame makes you want to ban traweling and make them all go back to the long lines make dublin bay an artifical reef sink all these sea bed killers and maybe then we might get back some of the fish we have been robbed of
