clifden bay co galway 23 september 2009

#1 Post by gfkelly1969 »

People:myself,ronan,noel,tony and mike

Duration:10:00 to 20:00 10hrs

Tide:high 08:29 4.7m low 14:31 1.1m high 20:51 4.4m

Weather:dry and windy

Bait:rag worm,mackerel,green crab,limpets,sand eel

Rigs:various

Results:bull huss,ballen wrasse,corkwing wrasse,dogfish

Report:kaner from the site offered to bring some rag down for me yesterday so took him up on the offer, many thanks for doing that for me and telling me of the wrasse mark, sound guy
when the brothers heard of the rag they decide to head back to clifden with 2 friends they collected 30+green crab as well
took the day off work myself and when they arrived back this morning we decided to head to my conger mark first, and after what saltydog said about the conger gear i decided to go with a stronger set up,when we arrived there and i set up the rod for the conger, some of the lads were wondering what the hell i was doing with the 10/0 hook and half a mackerel on it then 5 minutes later landed this monster :D

bull huss 2.JPG

bull huss 3.JPG

no sight of any conger but happy to get the huss :D biggest one i got this year, after that they all wanted the big hooks, the brother ronan lost another huss a bit later, not as big but a decent size as well

after a bit we decided it was time for food and after getting a bit we said we would try my ray mark, the tide was very low but the water was very clear so we didn't expect much but decided to give it a go for 1hrwhile the food settled,no ray so headed off to mark number 3

arrived at mark 3 and met kaner and a mate from the site cant remember his name  ,after a chat for awhile move on a bit and set up to try for my first wrasse with the rag kaner got for me,thanks again
the lads had got a couple of wrasse before i set up beside them so things were looking good,10 minutes after setting up a two hook flapper with the rag on it i landed my first wrasse :D :D
my first wrasse.JPG

tony later landed a corkwing wrasse, hope i have the id right

good day had by all,and i am delighted to get my last target species of 2009 all thanks to kaner and blackiemc for all the tips and advice they gave me
