Wexford Bass 15 Aug 09

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Baz & Myself

Duration: 10pm-2am

Tide:Very small / rising to a degree.

Weather: nice

Rigs:4/0-3/0 Pennel Pulley & Running Ledger

Bait: Lug, Squid & Pissers

Results: 6 Bass

We decided to head out for relaxing evening doing a spot of Bassing on the oul bait for a change. The tide was small and the sea like a mirror, but the Bass still got to eat !
First Cast I strapped on a large Squid to a 4/0 Pulley and sent her out, around 40mins later had a small knock which I duly struck...Bass on. No go in this lad at all, he just cruised into shore. The hungry bugger had the whole Squid and 2 hooks inside his mouth! Anyway not a bad start.
Rods remained motionless then for the next hour or so until a lug Bait I had out got a decent smack, waited and finally struck, Bass on. This fella had a bit more go in him, a couple of back flips and head shaking to increase the interest levels.
Again the rods remained motionless for another spell, I sent out a lug bait abit further out which got hit pretty quickly and a decent fight followed. Sent the bait back out and got nailed but this time it was a hit a run and Billy was gone before I struck.
Baz baited up his Red Dragon with lug and a 2oz lead and flicked it out for the craic ala touch ledgering :D , he got hit and a good scrap on the light rod ensued. Happy Days. Baz quickly dialled in the range again and was soon into another Bass, kicking and bucking in the surf. The pace increased with myself landing another Bass too on a large lug bait and subsequently missing another hit.
Then someone flicked the switch and the Bass moved on with their patrol along the coast, indicating time to pack up and hit the road.
In all we only had 8 hits on the baits with 6 hook ups, a fairly quiet evening albeit a relaxing one to rest the oul bones!

The were shooting stars out last night to beat the band if your into that sort of thing!

Got the 1st fish on a Whole Squid and the rest on Lug.
Only had 4 Pissers with me so they were only used for 2 casts.
Have you tried them yourself ?

I have tried them a couple of times but only had one or two. First time the conditions were fairly calm and the bass didn't show up. Second time I had a hit with one but lost it. I presume it was a bass - shortly after got a few bass on rag.

Yeah apparently so, Ive never tried freezing them though, just used them a couple of days after digging them.
I dont tend to use Razor that much unless Im down Waterford direction.

You cant go wrong with a whole squid mounted on a pennel in september/october around Wexford 8)
