Wexford Bass 03-Aug-09

#1 Post by Danny M. »

People:Baz Pat and Myself

Duration:A few hours

Tide:small

Weather: Septic !

Bait: Hard and Soft Plastics

Results: 2 Bass 2 Wrasse & 1 Pollock

Report:

Small tides and unsuitable weather conditions, driving rain and a force 7 s/w wind were our obstacles. I had been away since Friday and I needed to fish so nothing was going to put me off !
As expected the fishing was difficult although the Wrasse Man ( Pat) pulled his usual share of Wrasse out of the margins in quick succession. These were big boys, 4lb 10oz on the scales!
All quiet then for an hour or so, the lads were about to head off when I clipped on an Angel kiss and first cast into the breakers bang a lovely little Bass was landed…..the lads stayed
Pat sent an Xlayer out into the general direction and hooked and landed a Bass.
Unfortunately that was all the action, I picked up a Pollock just before we headed off.

Its miserable out there.
This weather better settle soon !

Good fishing in spite of the weather.
The wrasse were taken on lures?? was there any lure in particular that they liked? I am heading to Beara for a bit of wrasse bashing next weekend. I would normally use rag when fishing for them but might give a few lures a go.

They seem to have a liking to the Xlayers if you fish them very between/over submerged rocks.
Only downside is you will lose a few to the rocks on the light gear.
