What's a 'lure' ?

Hi guys
I know what a spinner is but what is a 'lure' - is this just another name for a 'spinner' ?

Excuse my ignorance but I'm new to this

A lure can mean vairous things like jelly worms, shads, plugs and even fly's

Jelly worm is a worm shaped bit of plastic normally with a thin waggly tail.

Shad is a plastic fish with a paddle tail, either with or without a weighted head.

Plug is a roughly fish shaped bit of plastic or wood, usually fitted with a diving vane on the nose.

Hi S8W

I have have had a look at that site and there is some interesting info' about the lures. However, as usual it just throws up a whole lot more questions

For example: some of the info talks about the lures being fished surface/ sub surface 3O cms 60cms etc.

So then I take it that since the info is talking about fairly specific fishing depths lures are fished without the help of a lead weight - which would pull it down to an unspecified depth - correct? If this is the case then is there an issue with how far you can cast the lures without the aid of a lead weight ? Lines are simply fished with nothing else other than the lure attached ?
