killary harbour, galway, 7th june 09
People: myself and 4 others
Duration: 13.00 17.00
Tide: ht at 17.30
Weather: glorious sunshine followed by gales then torrential rain then midges infestation
Bait: fresh mack, old mack, sandeel, squid
Rigs: pulleys, 3 hook flapers, pats
Results: 2 dogs
Report: gbsac decided to have a comp near rosroe quay - the bank accomodated the 5 of us grand but if the expected 10 turned up it would have been a squeeze
had a few swings of the feathers before the comp started and got a fresh mack
a couple of dogs were got in the first hour - and then a blenny
then quiet - a few rigs were lost - bottom was muddy in places - then covered in tubes worms and then the obligatory weed
there were patches where the lead just kept dropping and you were winding in at your feet even after castin out 100 yards
lost a few rigs as the weed became more involved with the retrieve with the rising of the tide
snock 2 dogs in the last hour to claim the comp by one poxy cm - how bad
at this stage the midges had clouds formed all over us and we ran out of the place
had a ball of fresh lug still and went down to lettergesh to use them up and eat my late lunch - got a flattie on the first cast and then nothing for an hour and headed home - looking like id the measles

Re: killary harbour, galway, 7th june 09
Kinda glad I missed this one now, stuck on crutches for the weekend so no chance of fishing. Allergic to midges too so I feel your pain!
Haha, looks like he might have to dig himself out...

Its called fishing, not catching. If it was called catching it wouldn't be fishing!

Re: killary harbour, galway, 7th june 09
he was literally doing that at one stage - dig one foot out - in the mean while the other sticks in
all laughing aside i started to help dig him out and i had to stop otherwise i would have been stuck too!!!

Re: killary harbour, galway, 7th june 09
Well done to Brian on the win and unlucky Timmy losing out by 1cm and Ray who would've been in with a shout had he not lost a dog who dropped back in on the lift out....... it was a terrible turn out for the comp which was dissapointing as was the lack of fish with 1st and 2nd place tied on 2 dogfish for a 4hr comp!!
Ah the old space wellies
the best lug digging boots ever invented
well at least the 2nd location we dug isn't anywhere near as soft and is wedged with worms
happy days...... (note to one self get an equally embarrassing pic of Brian next time
)
