Reporting bass fishing activities during close season
Hi all. With the bass closed season fast approaching
(and the wonderful Easterly winds to try and squeeze the last few hours before that
) I thought it would be a good idea to get a list of contacts (yes, again!) in case anyone sees and wishes to report bass fishing activities and some sort of procedure or a list of details to report. I will be exploring part of the Eastern coastline myself for marks for when the season reopens but have no idea who to call if I see something suspicious or what to tell them exactly. Perhaps the administrators would like to send a reminder of the closing dates to all members of the forum and also make this sticky? Any other suggestions welcomed.

What is something suspicious? someone using a pennel rig, a crab & lug cocktail??
What exactly would you tell a fisheries officer?

Maybe someone spinning with plugs? Surely they won't be after whiting. Some people, if you ask them what they are fishing for at a particular mark, will even tell you they are targeting bass!
By the way, I'M NOT LOOKING FOR A FIGHT! Just some info and ideas.

Re: Reporting Bass fishing activities during close season
I stuck up a post on this topic about seeing a guy walking away from a mark in kerry with four well undersized bass in a bucket recently.
I'm totally puzzeled as to what decent anglers who care for the existance of the species can do even in clear cut cases where no excuses, even i'm after mackeral will cut it.
I'm 100% sure i will see the same guy or others fishing AND CATHCING and NOT RELEASING several bass in the closed season, and where do i turn???? No idea!!
Maybe its time we took a stand and started a petition on line for all to sign up to and post it as a sticky??
just a thought!
tight lines and happy fishing to all decent anglers out there as the waters warm
steve

Top Ten Excuses Heard on the East Coast From Those Still Fishing Yesterday:
1. I'm only fishing for sea trout (a regularly identified guzzler of peeler crab).
2. I'm fishin for smoothounds (an even more regular guzzler of plastic plugs).
3. I'm practising my casting, and the only way to do it is with bait on the hooks. And aerodynamically peeler crab is different to rag worm.
4. I have diplomatic immunity, as ambassador of wankovia.
5. I really just wanted to take photographs of the wind farm behind us but got confused between a fishing rod and a digital camera. I'll get me coat.
6. The foreigners will take them and eat them anyway, and I voted Yes in Lisbon, so I'm only furthering social cohesion.
7. The commercial fishermen will catch them and sell them anyway. It would be shame not show some entrepreneurial flair, and it's really a kind of job for me. Ask Mary Coughlan.
8. I'm really, really desperate to get my picture with a big dead bass on the CFB web site.
9. I'm really, really desperate to get my picture with a big dead bass into the Irish Times Angling Notes column.
10. Laws apply to everyone else except me. Did I mention I am also a sitting TD?
