Around the Rosses dungaloe donegal.

hi there, im heading up dungaloe direction on saturday morning for two weeks. I go up every year and stay with some people in Maghery fairly near to where that cluster of holiday homes is and the cemetary.
Every year i try a bit of sea fishing around here but never have much success so spend some time trying to fly fish around the lakes instead.
This year however i hope to get much more into sea fishing hopefully with your help. Does anybody know a good mark arond here. Dont mind what i catch pollack, mullet, mackerel, flats anything. Ive heard flat rocks at falmore can be good but went to look last year and have no idea how to get down to it. any advice on tackle?
Also i am 16 so transport will be a bit of a problem for any further away marks. Any information at all would be really appreciated. will have no internet access or tv while here so really anything is welcome before saturday. Thanks and tight lines.

Cruit sound/point area is good for pollock if you can get as far as it.

Maybe not much help but maybe someone up there can give you some more info.

"Try asking in Charlie Bonner's shop at the bridge in Dungloe (""Main Street"" ) about marks. You can't miss the shop - the window is full of tackle. Should be able to suggest a few things.

Dungloe Bay itself is shallow, sheltered and tidal - ought to be good for flats and mullet but I have no info either way. There is a channel up the bay right up to Dungloe Pier (dries at LW - another of those Congested Districts boards projects...) which if fished from LW up should at least confine the fish available into a more manageable area.

Post a catch report when you get back - we have very little info on fishing marks, species etc in the extreme nort west. Should make interesting reading.

Hey Col,

The flat rocks at falmore are a brilliant spot for catching pollock, mackerel and even the odd red cod. However i would recommend not fishing any of the marks along crohy head on your own. they are pretty dangerous unless you know where you are going. The area at falmore is exposed so stay away with a westerly wind.Im not to sure the way down to the rocks at falmore but if you ask any local in that area you should be able toget directions if you offer them a pollock. If you have a bike i could recoomend a cycle over the mountain to trawenagh bay it has a lot of potential. There is a bridge at the bottom of the hill below meenacross school that is teeming with huge mullet that are never fished for in this area.

If you are into beach fishing you can always fish of maghery strand you will have a chance of plaice,flounder, turbot and i know that are even some sole available occasionally you will also encounter buckets of dogfish ion if you are fishing on your own. use baits like mackerel even try mussel you should be able to get them at low tide by the pier past maghery cemetry.

Dungloe bay has never produced for me i would say you would have a better shot of the strand. As for tackle i would reommend stocking up on anything you could possibly need befor eyou go to dungloe. Bonners is quite an expensive shop. I have been going in there for years and always found the charlies sons arent that bothered dealing with young fellas ( this is my own personal experience). If however you get charlie himself he will point you in the right direction of fish just tell him you are stuck for travel arrangements and that you are out in maghery.
