JD vs Croppyboy veals/diawa lms comp Apr 13, Donaghmore, Wex

#1 Post by jd »

People: Jd and Fintan
with Eric and boycie present as well

Duration: 5:45 pm - 10:45 pm

Tide: Should have been in at 11 pm or so, not much movement

Weather: SE wind, moderating and the rain was easing off

Bait: Lug,mack, sand eel, ragworm, crab

Rigs: Flappers, clipped downs

Results:

JD -
1 whiting of 21 and 9 undersize
1 Bass 20
1 dab 22
1 flounder undersize

Total 128

Fintan 8 undersize whiting

Total 40

Report:

I had intended to fish Toberpatrick, but on checking it out it looked like it might become unfishable so with Fintan's agreement I moved to the shelter of Donaghmore

This was a lot more sheltered, though I wouldn't say pleasant! First cast I was into a small bass and an undersize flounder but after that it all went quiet. With darkness, Fintan started hitted some whiting and had levelled things with 6 undersize before I started to find the whiting. These were all undersize, except for 1 counter and I also pulled in a dab on my second last cast. Fintan was unluck to drop a dog at the end, so hard luck to him on that.

Next leg of this is on Arklow South Beach, there are only a few dogs in it. :)

well done jd you fished well

i comited the ultimate mistake left my fresh bait on erics doorstep so when we got there no fresh bait. things started slow for me but then had 2 doubles in a row ended up with 8 undersize. got 1 good doggie bite but dropped him on the way in . john kept on plugging away with fish . i went out at distance to try and get dogs or bigger whitting but no joy
enjoyed it and looking forward to the next round

Still all to play for, providing bootsy remembers his rods, reels, bait, traces & dignity for the second leg.
