Browns Bay, Co. Antrim 14-04-2009

#1 Post by rab01 »

People:Myself

Duration:10am-noon

Tide:rising

Weather:rainy

Bait:abu krill lure

Rigs:

Results:1 Seatrout

Report:Only my third outing of the season and the previous two resulted in 2 blankety blanks and the other marks I fished in Strangford Lough are far more renowned for seatrout, but thats fishing. Great sport on my light spinning rod, a very acrobatic fish, it leapt clear of the surface as soon as it was hooked. Almost lost it in the kelp at the waters edge but I gave it a bit of line and it swam back out into the clear. I would have swore blind it was around the 2 pound mark as it was a long fish but it weighed in at 1lb 4oz. I'm happy to get the season up and running. :)

good to find the fish, its always nice not to blank and sea trout arn't to be scoffed! I fished that area about a month ago, rag on float but unfourtunately blanked.
It's all about the fishing

Browns bay is a great wee spot with a good variety of species available. Seatrout, flounder, pollock, coalie, wrasse, whiting, codling, rockling, dogfish and the occasional bass. Well worth a throw chum.

There isn't enough numbers of Bass caught there to get alot of interest. Really aren't worth targeting at this mark but it does throw up a few every year. Only ever fished it during daylight hours and it fishes well.

Bryan,

Do you fish from the beach or off the rocks at either side?
