Greystones, Steps 31/4/09

#1 Post by Cormdogg »

me

9pm-12.30

Not so fresh Mackerel and Earthworms!

2/3 hook flappers,2 hook flattie attractor rigs,sliding ledger,sliding float,conger rig! 2 then 3 rods

Tide on the flood

Calm but quite chilly

Absolute Zip!

Arrived around 8.45 and did a reccie around because I wanted to find a new spot but but with the tide only on its way in decided on the steps, Met a couple of lads down at the baths who hadn't caught a thing all day. Set up at the steps put one hook ledger with a glo muppet and mack in the hope of a doggie, Then put three hook flapper out with bunchs of earthworms tipped with mack, Got bites on this steadily all night managing only to hook one fish which I lost at some stage, After I lost this rig to the rocks I went to the flattie rig, I was continuously getting bites but no fish on, Mustve been small whiting and I hadnt tied myself small hook rigs in a while, I had 3s first and then 2s so bit too big Im afraid. Nothing on the ledger so to keep self amused I put out a mack head on a conger rig (You never know)

With boredom and the temperature against me I went back to my car and got my small trout rod and was spinning mepps around the place just for fun, Then I set that rod up with a float with a strip of mack belly,no bites there either. Realized there was no conger in greystones, I went back on a two hook flapper, more bites but no fish, Started to get cold at 12 and even though I was refusing to blank 3 in a row I had t pack it in because there was definite tone of Pirate Ghost in the air and I was starting to give myself the hee bee jee bees!

So Ill stick to tying a few new rigs with smaller hooks for a couple of days, the earthworms were definitely interesting the fish they're some movers and next time Ill have to get better bait, I suppose that is the moral of the story.
