Congratulations Anthony on your first Irish Thornback… and the season is only starting I hope mike has a good supply of bait for the next trip… and no I don’t feel too bad about being whipped senseless at one of my favourite marks… must be getting used to it,

Nice session lads. I'm heading for North Clare in April. Don't imagine I'll get down that far. Can ray be caught from beaches in North Clare also?

Hi BB2,

A friend of mine fished from a boat and caught a lot of rays about a mile south of black head light house… reckons he was about 4 hundred yards from shore… that’s all I’m able to tell you about the area as I’ve never fished it for ray’s,

Maybe you should send a PM to “nthclare” as he does a lot of fly fishing in and about the area and will know of any marks that you might try from the shore,

In fact I should contact him myself as he knows where I might catch some nice Pollock on the fly… anyroad I reckon he’s the man to help you there,

That's true anthony but it really helps when someone else does all the leg work to find a good mark to plonk you at,

There are a few beaches that ray are caught off, mainly at night but if you want a better chance you should try the rockmarks at Ballyreen and as Mann said the Lighthouse at Blackhead. Both are very foul bottom close in but you hit sand at about 40-50 yards.
Fresh mackerel, squid and sandeel are favourite baits. I have had more luck towards the end of May and onwards but then you get plagued with mackerel bashers
Send me a pm when you want to come over and I will show you a few marks
