People: Myself and Colin Brett in his 16 footer the "Clew-less"
Duration: 10 am to 4 pm
Tide: High at 2:20 pm, around 3.5 metres
Weather: Windy (a lot more than was forecast!), Blustery but no rain, definitely getting up to force 4 and changing from W to S over the time.
Bait: Forgot to bring any!
Rigs: Feathers
Results: 4 mackerel, all not very big.
Report:Met quite a few other boats out and there were getting very little too. Caught all of them in the deep water at the mouth of Westport Harbour (out near the lighthouse) drifting in 50 - 100 feet of water. It turns out the transponder from the fish finder has worked loose so all the false positive and weird depth changes were explained.
Fished out of Murrisk which was a new launch point for me - good slip behind the harbour and good rocky beach to launch off but the water is shallow and was teeming with sprat, crabs, a small conger (!) and shrimp fry.
Fished Bertraw's infamous deep slack water pool on the way back and caught a pouting, and Colin took two pollack - not one of the three was more than 4 inches long! Have a nice dose of wind burn to boot!
Still, enjoyable day and many thanks to Colin. As has been mentioned elsewhere the red tide has done a lot of damage to the fishing at the moment but hopefully it should improve soon. A good blow needed...
