West Waterford Beach, 10/02/09

#1 Post by Pat »

People: Me & ROADRUNNER

Duration:4 hrs

Tide:Around 6ish

Weather:Beautiful & not too cold for a change

Bait:Lug & Fresh Razor

Rigs:2 Hks Pats, Pulleys, & 3 Hk Flappers

Results:Bass :D

Report:Danny was keen to fish a mark that Shoreking had given him so we headed off nice and early down the road to the Deise as I was keen to be fishing before the moonrise. We were set up and fishing just before high tide and just as it got dark Danny was first into a fish. A bass!!! ....and a nice one at that, just under 5lbs and very thick bodied and plump. It looked like we had hit the spot just at the right time. Or so we thought. Two hours later we were having second thoughts. I reckoned we had missed the key moonphase at this stage, but Danny was having none of it. As has been previously noted, Danny just plain doesn't believe in this moon lark, as he calls it . A phonecall to Shoreking and it turns out we are fishing the wrong spot. After relocating we decided to give it an hour and a half as at this stage it was mid-tide. Not long after Danny calls over. He's into a good fish. As he plays out the fish I wade onto the shallow rocks right in front of us. Then I see it. It's bloody huge. Danny coaxes it in further and as he does I grab the trace. Then disaster. The fish comes off. As it flaps in the surf I dive onto top of it. I have a grip of it briefly but it soon powers away from me. I couldn't believe it. I was probably more gutted than Danny was. This was a big fish. I had a fish of 10.25lbs before Christmas and this one was bigger. I give out to Danny for using size 4 hooks but it turns out that the fish broke the snood....15lb amnesia  . If it was me I'd have packed up for the night but good ol' Danny carries on...and is soon rewarded. 10 minutes later Danny is into another sizeable fish and this time lands him. This fish tips the scales at 7lbs, and again is plump and thick. 10 minutes later he's into another bass, but smaller at 47cm. Another 5 mins and another of similar size. The man's on fire 8) 8) . After that all goes quite and around 10.30pm we decide to head back to Cork. All in all a great nights fishing...well for Danny anyway. Isn't that what a good gillie's for...to make sure their client gets all the fish  . (I getting fed up of blanking this year...I think I've lost my touch  ). Many thanks to Shoreking for putting us onto the fish :D . We'll be back.

A BIG thank you to you for getting me out tonight as my gills were dring up  The first beach looked promising and the "moon was right" and indeed we did catch a Bass but it went verry quiet after that :o :o :o

Thankfully i called the Bass KING and he advised me of a change of venue to a beach where he has been catching a lot of Bass recentally (not posting them as he doesnt want to upset anybody)well done big lad your a legend.

Now the moonphase wasnt wright but sure i thought what the hell 8) after an inital slow start all my fish came within 20min. Pat was brilliant........... you really want to see that man dive head first into the surf trying to grab my specimen   funny and sad at the same time    that Bass was HUGE i have never seen one bigger    sorry about your phones Pat

All in all a great session and a BIG THANK YOU to PAT and the SHOREKING

Hi lads,
that sounds like a proper fishing session,it had it all.Fairplay to ye for taking decession to move locations, can be a pain in the butt when a person does have to set up elsewhere but i bet yere glad ye did it now, keep up the good work.I can concur with ye on the helpfulness of SK,a sackful of hints and tips.Just wondering why he has'nt been called in to sort out the cork hurling situation

Pat & Danny,

thanks for the compliments. Well done on the fish. Ye know who to contact if ye want more "BIG BASS" and not the schoolies. Good to see ye willing to return em as it is approachin spawning season. Tight lines.

Well done Danny, that was great fishing - shame the big one got away but 5lb and 7 lb bass, as well as the smaller one is a fine result.
I am getting fishing withdrawal symptoms now after reading that report   I havn't been fishing since 25th January as I am in Oregon, USA at the moment and won't be home for another week.

Pity about the monster that got away but sounds like ye more than made up for it with the others.
