Results:lots of whiting 2 rockling and two coalies
Report:put out two rods one in close that got all the fish and one out next to the kelp bed 100 or so yards out ,not one fish able to swalla a 5/0 pennel twas a lovely night the moon was aaasum tried to get a good pic but the whiting didnt give me enough time between bites to fiddle with the camera

I brought the kids to the fish prison over Christmas. They were feeding the dog fish and bull huss. I now hope never to catch dog fish again. They can raise the top 1/3 of their bodies out of the water and swim backwards while you hand food to them. I've yet to see a whiting that can do that. They are much more intelligent than I thought and it makes me wince to think about what i have seen some less compassionate anglers do to them. I'm talking about people like the lads I saw at Bray harbour slapping one off the wall several times in an attempt to get their hook back, or the lads at Wicklow Harbour who took at least five kicks at one to get it back in the water.
Not forgetting those who cuts their tails off and send them back in hoping that their blood brings in other bigger fish
If I know there are loads of Doggies around I use Circle hooks.
All of my hook ups on Doggies when using circle hooks are in the side of the mouth as expected and easy to remove.

the sad thing is they are good to eat i used to eat the odd one but must admitt when you see one in the prison they are very gracefull fish and deserve respect, same as other members of the shark family shame they dont grow bigger really.

and here comes the recipe: place meat on oak plank grill for 20 min. toss meat in fire and eat the oak plank , a little harder to chew but taste better

Have you ever had Rock Salmon (ie. dog fish) in an English chipper? beats a plank! I have a cookery..ahem....the wife has a cookery book called "The Silver Spoon" It's the italian bible of cookery books and has several recepies for Huss (ie. dog fish.)

That's the "bible" of the cook book in Italy.
How can you remove the skin of the feckers (dog fish)?
I tried once and I failed completely!!!

but as I said before, don't bother, unless you really need to make up your own mind about their culinary qualities which are doubtful so to say
@ Stephen8wood, did you ever check what other morsels the Italian cookbook has on offer?
I came across a few "traditional" recipes on occasional visits to Italy which would send my stomach into rotation any time and I'm not talking about pasta, pizza and the likes.

A firiend lived in Testaccio (Rome) for a while, the restaurants specialise in offal and sweetbreads. I don't think you'll see four-start pizza offering them on the delivery menu any time soon!
