dollymount, killiney, 07,11,08

#1 Post by corbyeire »

People: myself, shamoo, then al and eric

Duration: 2hrs dollymount, 3hrs killiney

Tide: from the top down

Weather: windy but sheltered dollymount, squally and wet in killiney

Bait: at my usual mack only routine, lads were mixing it about

Rigs: 3 hook flapper, 3/0 clipped pennell

Results: 1 whiting dollymount, coalie and flounder killiney, lads also got silver eel, flounder, coalie, dog, flounder, rockling in killiney

Report: knew the weather was going to be bad so wanted a place with shelter - dollymount bathing shelters were to do the trick

the smell of stale piss and rotten fish was sublime - nothing doing first hour - then twice hooks were robbed thought it was crabs - last cast as we decided to go - threw up a pin whiting - won the first round pool!

had ground baited the spots with 4 mack heads and guts - so at least it brought something in - small mercies

onto killiney after picking up al - first cast cracked off - never put over the bail arm - was distracted by 4-5 geniuses in the carpark launching fireworks in our direction

then snagged on second cast - lost the rig again ! = the flapper was out already and when i eventually got it back in a tiny flounder (that was the first flounder pool) and coalie were on

and that was it for me - stood there for another 2.5hrs in the rain and wind to no avail - al in fairness got a good coalie and a dog - again in the first hour

marks good ol friend the silver eel showed (largest fish, credit where its due!)- he always gets them and also a flounder and another coalie

eric showed after and got a rockling - and had the sense to head off again after an hour and a half - but the fishing really died after the first hour

some of the waves were massive - 2 metres - luckily didnt get too wet but was glad to get out of it

poor al was saturated

got to love the winter fishing

What a lovely session, I had the sense not to fish Dollymount myself just waited for the lads to move on until they went somewhere else! :D

Didn't wear my waders as the leg is soaked :? so put on a lovely pair of waterproofs with a huge hole in them which left me pretty wet to say the least  Looked like it was gonna be a good session when we got to Killiney with fish being caught from the start, The sea was pretty rough so i tried big crab baits to see if the weather had brought any codling in but crab came back untouched, Next cast put Half a mac on a pully pennell and brough in a coalie at 36cm not bad for Killiney, Nothing coming to the big baits after that so stuck out a flapper with size 4's and long snoods in the hope of a few coalies but ended up catching a Dogfish which i suprised at as it was pretty rough. Went pretty much dead for me after that and just sat it out til it was time to go home
