Float Fishing for Wrasse!!!!!!!!

Alright Lads! Myself and John D are going to do a bit of float fishing around Dun Laoghaire this friday, anyone heard anything bout this area lately? Were hoping to pick up some wrasse and maybe pollock, we'll also bring the spinners, and maybe try for some Mackerel, is there any about????

The reason were picking Dun Laoghaire is.... its close to where I work, and we are just dying to get even a small bit done, as John D is doing exams at the mo, and were waiting til he's finished for our more organised trips down to wexford, and maybe Castletownbere.

Any feedback, greatly appreciated as always.

I have done most of my fishing here. The back of each pier is good for both and will get bigger fish. The inside of the piers are good for smaller fish. Use rag for wrasse and mackerel and spinners for pollack. Float fish as close as possible to the weeds,You do not have to go to top off pier to get them.

which pier are yee fishin?? some good wrasse and pollack here. for BIG pollack the smaller east pier on the seaward side is the place. fish have been caught here near the 10lb. mark! is that big enough for you??!!

Were fishing the east pier, seaward side, where the conrete ledge sticks out into the water, not to far up! Yeah mb3, 10lb pollack, sounds big enough to me!!!!

Think I'l give that a shot myself. never relly fish in Dublin but im gettin a pain in the ass drivin all the way to wicklow and wexford

i don't know how common these 10 pounders are but they have been caught. i remember one angling writer confirming it.

mb.3 you bring back happy memories for me. i caught a 10+ pollock off the east peir about 3 years ago. and to be honest in the last couple of years i havn't fished it that much, to busy travelling round the country chasing fish and forgetting the good sport that is availible in dublin. i was fishing on the seaward side at the elbow at low water, let the spinner sink nearly right to the bottom, you will loose spinners this way but to caught the big one's you have to have he spinner working close to the rocks and kelp. hope this helps

Well at the moment, a 3, 4 or 5lb Pollack would be nice! Id love to get a nice Wrasse too, what a beautiful Fish!!!!! So yeah the east pier it is, hopefully i'll have something nice to write home about!!!!!! Cheers Lads.

try using small hardback crabs on the float for wrasse

there u go lads!! Gitboy had one!! i rest my case!! if low and deep and near rocks is the key try using heavier spinning tackle and lures. remove the treble from your lures and add a strong (but slightly lighter than mainline) lenght of mono to the lure. now tie a single hook onto this 'weaklink'. the weaklink should be an inch or less long. you can fish real close to the dirt and when you snag up all you loose is the hook 99 times out of 100. don't worry about hook up rate with single hook it works fine.
